It's Time to Hit the Slopes! Favorite Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts

Skiing is one of my family's favorite winter sports. And just a short drive away from the Truckee Meadows are several spectacular ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe Basin. If you're a snow sports enthusiast, or just someone looking to experience the beauty of winter in the mountains, the ski resorts near Reno-Sparks offer a perfect escape. In this blog, we'll highlight some of our favorite ski resorts in and around Lake Tahoe.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe 
One of the closest ski resorts to South Reno is Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. With an 8,260 ft. base elevation, the resort is Tahoe’s highest and known for its stunning views and excellent snow conditions. Celebrating its 60th season, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is home to 1,200 acres of terrain with a wide range of options for all skill levels, including the Chutes, a popular destination for advanced skiers. Mt. Rose is a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.

Diamond Peak Ski Resort
Also located a short drive from South Reno is Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Situated in Incline Village, this resort offers breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and some of the area’s most affordable lift tickets and season pass prices. It's an excellent option for those seeking a more laid-back ski experience in a picturesque setting.

Northstar California Resort 
About an hour's drive from Reno, you will find Northstar California Resort, a winter wonderland known for its charming village, upscale amenities, and exceptional grooming. Whether you're into skiing, snowboarding, or simply enjoying the après-ski scene, Northstar has something for everyone.

Palisades Tahoe 
Palisades Tahoe (formerly known as Squaw Valley) together with its neighboring resort, Alpine Meadows, offers a vast and diverse ski experience. Palisades Tahoe was the host of the 1960 Winter Olympics and is home to stunning alpine scenery and a challenging range of terrain. The area is a favorite among extreme athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. Palisades Tahoe lift tickets are valid at both Palisades and Alpine, and give skiers and snowboarders access to over 6,000 skiable acres.

Heavenly Mountain Resort
A bit further away but still within a reasonable drive from Reno, Heavenly Mountain Resort is a South Lake Tahoe gem. The resort's unique location straddles the California-Nevada border, offering breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe from the slopes. With 97 runs over 4,800 acres, it is a perfect destination for skiers and snowboarders seeking a blend of adventure and natural beauty.
