You Have to Jump to be Successful
Today, I want to share a personal story about my career path and offer to pay it forward if you are looking to make a bold change in 2023. Back in the Summer of 2016, I watched a YouTube episode of the Family Feud with my son, which was being hosted by Steve Harvey. At the end of the episode, Steve walked over to the audience and delivered one of the most inspiring and motivational dialogues I had ever heard called “To be successful you have to jump." Below is the YouTube video of his dialogue after the show and I highly recommend you watch it.
While I was a successful professional environmental engineering consultant for 20 years at the time, I absolutely dreaded going to my job. I had always thought there was more to my life and career than working behind a desk and working for a big company. Unfortunately, I struggled mightily with how I was going to leave a profession that I had poured half of my life into.
From that point forward, I watched the video each week for inspiration and started planning my departure from my engineering consultant position. It took three years of building up my Real Estate business and working long 80-plus hour work weeks (40 hours as an engineering consultant and 40 hours working as a realtor) to convince myself and my wife that I had to jump. The turning point came in 2018 when my real estate business took off and I made more money than I did as an engineer. At the end of that same year, I did a lot of soul-searching and decided I had to pursue my passion in real estate.
On February 1st, 2019, I resigned from my position leaving behind my project management position to pursue my journey as a full-time real estate agent and drone pilot. While it was a very difficult decision at the time because of the uncertainty of a commission-based job and tackling a new profession with a young family and lots of expenses, it has completely changed my life. I get out of bed every morning inspired to work and I have been able to reach heights in my life and career that I could have never fathomed of reaching just four years ago.
I want to pay it forward and help someone else that is feeling that there is more to life or their career as I did in 2019. If you are someone that wants to make a bold change in 2023, but are unsure or need encouragement, I want to help! I am offering to meet for a hike, bike ride, ski trip to Mt Rose, coffee, or lunch to discuss your situation and to help give you some encouragement. Send me a private message or call/text me at 775-525-0309 to connect. I look forward to our meeting and remember: "To be successful you have to jump!"
