With its highly rated schools, abundance of parks and open space, and a strong sense of community, it’s no surprise that this part of town has become one of the most sought-after areas for homeowners. ## Top-Rated Schools Education is often one of the biggest priorities for families, and South Reno delivers. The area is home to several top-performing schools in the **[Washoe County School District](https://www.washoeschools.net/)**, including both public and charter options. The area has well-established schools as well as new, modern campuses that offer strong academic programs, and extracurricular opportunities that allow kids to thrive. For those exploring private education, there are also excellent schools nearby, making South Reno a hub for families who value learning. You can learn more about the school options in South Reno on our website: - [WCSD South Reno Schools ](https://www.livinginsouthreno.com/washoe-county-school-district) - [Private and Charter Schools](https://www.livinginsouthreno.com/private-charter-schools) ## Parks and Outdoor Living Wide walking paths, neighborhood parks, and large greenbelts are found throughout South Reno and make it easy to enjoy the outdoors close to home. The region is also just a short drive to Lake Tahoe, Mount Rose, the Sierra Nevada Mountains,  and the Truckee River, meaning skiing, hiking, and boating are right in your backyard. Some of my favorite parks in the Truckee Meadows are in south Reno and close to my home.  [Galena Creek Regional Park](https://www.washoecounty.gov/parks/parks/park_directory_pages/south_region/galena_creek_regional_park.php) is one of my favorite parks for its awesome hiking and mountain biking trails.  And you can find me watching my sons playing baseball or soccer on almost any given weekend at [South Valleys Regional Park](https://blog.livinginsouthreno.com/bigger-bolder-and-more-fun-the-latest-on-the-south-valleys-regional-park-expansion). If you and your family love having an active lifestyle and want to get out in nature close to home,  South Reno is an ideal match. ## Modern Homes and Family-Friendly Neighborhoods South Reno also offers a variety of housing options to meet everyone's needs.  From newly built homes with modern floor plans to established neighborhoods with mature landscaping, there’s something for everyone. South Reno has many master-planned communities, from golf course living and single-family homes in all sizes, to 55+ communities for active adults. Many of the new construction communities in South Reno feature family-friendly amenities like pools, clubhouses, and safe cul-de-sacs, perfect for kids to ride bikes and play outside. If you are looking for larger acreage, South Reno has that, too. From the [Holomcb Ranch](https://www.livinginsouthreno.com/holcomb-ranch) area to the [Virginia Foothills](https://www.livinginsouthreno.com/virginiafoothills), larger lots offer the opportunity for you to bring all of your toys, like campers and RVs, or even have livestock. ## Why Families Choose South Reno South Reno isn’t just a place to live, it’s a place to connect with community and put down deep roots. Families, just like mine,  are drawn to its blend of excellent schools, outdoor amenities, and warm, welcoming neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a community where kids can grow, play, and learn while parents enjoy convenience and connection, **South Reno might be the perfect fit**.
