Enjoy an early morning at the annual Great Reno Balloon Race. This is the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event and is family-friendly for all ages. The event has grown from its start in 1982 with just 20 balloons to today where up to 100 balloons take to the skies from the San Rafael Park in Reno. Head up to the historic Virginia City for the 65th annual International Camel and Ostrich Races. Watch as camels, ostriches, and even zebras carry riders across the finish line. With four shows across three days, this unique family-friendly event is extremely entertaining and one that you won't soon forget. You may even get your chance to ride on a camel!
The annual four-day Reno Tahoe International Art Show returns with an even larger footprint at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. This event celebrates fine art and sculpture, bespoke furniture, film, and music. The RTIA Show is unique to Reno Tahoe, showcasing local talent and art organizations alongside national and international galleries, independent artists, and sculptors from across the county. Special features for 2024 include the Basque Cultural Feature, the First Nations, Indigenous Peoples Pavilion, the Design Vignettes throughout the show and the ‘Post Playa Art’ Burning Man Sculpture Exhibition.
Dragon Lights Reno returns starting September 27th and will run through November 30th, 2024 at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Rancho San Rafael Park. Embracing the shift in seasons, this year’s event unveils exciting new themes including a brand-new winter wonderland section with arctic creatures such as polar bears, puffins, and narwhals. To celebrate the year of the dragon, the centerpiece boasts a magnificent 100-foot-long dragon soaring majestically through a cherry blossom forest. Local food vendors will also be on hand to provide guests with food and beverage options for purchase. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.
The spirit of Oktoberfest returns to the Village at Palisades Tahoe. This annual Bavarian-inspired festival offers traditional German food, beer, live music, and family-friendly activities. It's a lively event that captures the essence of German culture set in the beauty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. with various activities and events.
