New Online Portal Helps Washoe County Residents Stay Informed About Registered Sex Offenders

Whether you are a current Washoe County homeowner, renter, or looking to purchase a new home, it's essential to research the neighborhood you plan to call home. Keeping our communities safe and informed is a shared responsibility, and local law enforcement agencies across Northern Nevada have taken an important step to make that easier for residents.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, and Sparks Police Department have officially launched a new online tool designed to help the public access information about registered sex offenders in Washoe County.

Introducing the OffenderWatch Public Portal

The new OffenderWatch Public Portal is managed by detectives and officers assigned to the Regional Sex Offender Unit, ensuring the information is actively maintained and monitored by trained professionals.

This portal works alongside,  rather than replaces, the official Nevada Sex Offender Public Website. This new portal offers an additional, user-friendly way for Washoe County residents to stay informed.

How the Portal Works

Using the OffenderWatch Public Portal is straightforward:

  • Residents can enter any address in Washoe County
  • Users can then select a specific radius around that location
  • The system displays registered sex offenders within that area

This address-based search allows families, homeowners, renters, and prospective buyers to understand their surroundings better and make informed decisions about safety and awareness.

Free Email Alerts and Confidential Monitoring

In addition to its online search capabilities, the OffenderWatch Public Portal offers a free, confidential email alert system designed to keep residents informed of changes near locations that matter most.

Residents can register multiple addresses of interest, such as their home, school, workplace, or other frequently visited locations, and receive an email notification if a new registered offender is identified within one mile of any monitored address.

The use of the portal is completely free, there is no limit to the number of addresses that can be monitored, and all user information remains confidential.

Why This Matters

Access to accurate, up-to-date information empowers residents to:

  • Stay informed about their neighborhoods
  • Take proactive steps to protect their families
  • Engage in community awareness and safety planning

By providing this enhanced transparency, local law enforcement agencies are strengthening trust and supporting a more informed public across Reno, Sparks, and unincorporated Washoe County.

Staying Informed

For those interested, the portal is now live and available to the public, offering another way Northern Nevada residents can stay connected to the safety of their communities. You can learn more about the program that powers this online resource tool at OffenderWatch.

While tools like the OffenderWatch Public Portal are valuable resources, law enforcement officials remind residents that awareness should always be paired with responsible use of information and community engagement.
