June is here and with it comes the excitement of summer to the Reno-Tahoe region. This month you can get outside and enjoy the warm weather with various events catering to many interests. In this blog post, I will highlight some of the fun outdoor events, including a few of my family's favorites, happening in Reno-Tahoe this June.

  • Food Truck Fridays - Every Friday
This family-friendly event kicks off on Friday, June 7th. This weekly event is held at Idlewild Park in Reno from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m each Friday until August 30th. Over 50 rotating gourmet food, craft desserts, beer, wine, and mixed drink vendors bring their food and drink services to the park. Free to attend with live music, lots of grass to sit on with friends and family, plenty of parking, and a large playground and train rides for the kids. This is a great family event! Bring lawn chairs and a blanket and sample all kinds of food options.
  • Reno River Festival - June 7-9
The Reno River Festival will take place June 7th-9th with three days of outdoor adventure in downtown Reno at Wingfield Park. This festival celebrates the Truckee River and the outdoor recreational opportunities it offers. Visitors can enjoy live music, food vendors, and a variety of activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and fly fishing. There are also competitions and races for those who want to showcase their skills on the water. Tickets are $10 for a 3-Day RiverFest Passes. Kids 17 and under, and dogs, are free! Passes include festival access all weekend long with 24 music acts on two stages, 100+ vendor shops, the Reno Tahoe Adventure Park, dozens of food and drink options, and much more.  A portion of each pre-purchased entry fee benefits Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the Kiwanis Bike Program. Learn more on their website.
  • Reno Rodeo - June 20-29
The "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West" kicks off on June 20th for its 105th year. Started as a friendly rivalry among local ranches in 1919, today, the Reno Rodeo draws spectators from across the nation. On Thursday, June 20th the Cattle Drive rolls into Reno and the PRCA Xtreme Bulls take the arena for one night of pro bull riding. Friday, June 21st starts the first of nine pro rodeo performances with PRCA events including bareback, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, women’s barrel racing, women’s breakaway roping, and bull riding. The event often sells out so get your tickets early!
  • Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - June 28 to August 25
Experience the magic of theater against the stunning backdrop of Lake Tahoe at the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. Pack a picnic dinner, or order something at the event, and enjoy performances of Shakespearean classics and contemporary plays under the starry night sky. Gather with friends and family for an unforgettable evening of live theater, breathtaking views, and a picnic on the beach. It's truly a one-of-a-kind theater experience.
