Living in Truckee Meadows means that we are lucky enough to be a short drive away from one of the world's most beautiful places, Lake Tahoe. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and pristine waters. While many visitors flock to its well-known beaches, there is a hidden gem waiting to be explored – Secret Harbor Beach. Situated a few miles south of Sand Harbor on Lake Tahoe's east shore, Secret Harbor Beach is conveniently accessible via Highway 28. Finding parking for Secret Harbor Beach can be a bit of a challenge, especially during the bustling summer season. It's advisable to arrive early to secure a spot in the designated parking areas. Parking is free, but it's important to note that overnight camping is prohibited. In the event that these parking lots are full, an alternative option is to park along the lakeside of Highway 28, just beyond the "no parking" signs.
Once you have parked head over to the trail where you'll notice well-defined trails established by the U.S. Forest Service leading down to the lake. It's worth noting that some parts of these trails can be rather steep and challenging.
