December is here and this month ushers in a season of joy, festivities, and an array of events that capture the spirit of the holidays in Reno-Tahoe. Let's explore some exciting December events that await locals and visitors around the beautiful Truckee Meadows.

Christmas on Ice

Fun for the entire family, Christmas on Ice is bound to get you into the holiday spirit with world-class skating, dazzling costumes, a talented cast of singers, and a high-kicking chorus line. Performances are held Tuesday through Saturday until Dec. 30 at the Eldorado Resort Casino at THE ROW. Purchase your tickets here.  

Virginia City Christmas on the Comstock

Throughout December, Virginia City hosts several Victorian-style holiday celebrations. There is something for everyone including visits with Santa, holiday performances, unique train rides including the V&T Candy Cane Express and the Train O’ Lights, a Sharing is Caring Bingo charity event, and more. Menorah Lighting Celebration

The Menorah Lighting Celebration is a free event on Dec. 7 at 4:30 p.m. at Believe Plaza, 10 N. Virginia St. Sponsored by The City of Reno, the event will feature a menorah lighting ceremony, speakers, music, traditional Horah dancing, and food. More details online here

Reno Santa Pub Crawl

For the over-21 crowd, join thousands of other Santa enthusiasts at the Reno Santa Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 9. Wear your Santa suit and help spread holiday cheer while enjoying over 150 specials at over 40 bar and pub venues in downtown Reno. Learn more online here.

A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents 'The Nutcracker

The A.V.A. Ballet Theatre and the Reno Philharmonic bring the holiday classic The Nutcracker to the stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts located at 100 S. New Year's Eve Celebrations

As December draws to a close, the anticipation for the New Year builds up. There are always several parties and events to help you welcome the New Year. Downtown Reno hosts a countdown with fireworks (weather permitting) and most casinos in town offer dining specials and even room and event packages too. Head up to Mount Rose Ski Tahoe for their New Year’s Eve celebration. This event starts early on New Year’s Eve at 4:45 p.m. with a Snowcat Parade followed by a Torchlight Ski and then the grand finale Fireworks at 5:45 p.m. More details here.
