The South Valleys Regional Park in South Reno is undergoing a significant expansion to enhance recreational facilities and accommodate our growing community. This multi-phase project is guided by an updated master plan and supported by a combination of public and private funding. Our family frequents the South Valley Regional Park, especially the Little League Fields, and we are very excited to see the project in motion!
Expansion Overview
South Valleys Regional Park, currently spanning 104 acres, is set to expand by approximately 35 acres. The total estimated cost for the expansion is projected at $18 million, with construction planned in phases as funding becomes available.
Key features of the expansion include:
- Three new flat fields
- Four baseball/softball fields
- A dog park
- A playground
- Concession stands with restrooms
- Additional parking and supporting infrastructure
In July 2023, the Washoe County Board of County Commissioners allocated $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the park's expansion. Subsequently, in March 2024, the board approved an agreement with DOWL Engineering to design and provide engineering services for the development. And in November 2024, the board accepted a $3.5 million grant from the William N. Pennington Foundation to fund Phase 2a of the expansion, which includes two baseball/softball fields and a concession building with restrooms.
Construction Phases
The first phase of construction is in process and will focus on essential infrastructure, including grading, paving, drainage, and the installation of storm, sewer, and irrigation lines, as well as lighting, electrical equipment, and landscaping with irrigation controls.

Community Impact
The new fields will primarily serve Washoe Little League’s growing softball program, which supports over 300 girls in the community. The expansion is part of a long-term vision for South Valleys Regional Park, which also includes additional sports fields, a dog park, playgrounds, and other amenities as funding allows.
